Karl Bruun Portrait

Karl Bruun Portrait  - about 1960

We recently received an interesting email from  Kirsten (Bruun) Watson.  She was kind enough to share two of Richard’s paintings.  She said that the portrait which I added was commissioned by her grandfather Bertil Bruun and it is her father, Karl Bruun, at around the age of 20.  The painting is an oil measuring  26 x 30 inches.

Kirsten has strong links to the Miramichi.  Her mother was Carole McWilliam, the daughter or Kathleen and Roy McWilliam of Newcastle.  Her grandfather Roy McWilliam was the publisher and editor of the North Shore Leader and he served as Member of Parliament in the Canadian House of Commons for the constituency of Northumberland—Miramichi in New Brunswick from 1949 until 1968.

Her father Karl, was from Chatham (Bushville specifically), the house on the left corner (with back to water) of Harper Road.

His father Bertil was a businessman, originally from Norway.  Her parents moved to the Ottawa area so her dad could attend law school at Ottawa U.  He then owned a practice in Carleton Place (west of Ottawa) for 25+ years.  Kirsten, her older sister, and younger brother still live in the Ottawa area with their families.

Kirsten says that she spent many, many, many summers, Christmases and March Breaks at her house in Bushville growing up.  It  was her second home for over 20 years!  Says that she has “So many fond memories of the Miramachi”

Flowers-(Kirsten Brunn-Watson)

16×20″

The second painting that she shared with us is a still life of flowers.

Again it is an oil painting.  She says It was a purchase made by her grandfather.  It is 16 X 20 inches.

We were so pleased to receive these images of Richard’s paintings.  Especially with the strong link that they have to the Miramichi.
